Ortur Laser Master 2 settings — cut & engrave cheat sheet

Looking for Ortur Laser Master 2 settings, Laser Master 2 Pro settings or Pro S2 material settings? Starting-point power, speed and pass numbers for the Laser Master 2 S2 and Laser Master 2 Pro S2 (445 nm diode; LU2-2 ~1.6 W, LU2-4 5.5 W, LU2-10A 10 W modules), taken from Ortur's own published materials reference and kept separate per module. We have not run these machines through our own shop — treat them as a fast start, then confirm with a test grid. Ortur still lists the Pro S2 on its site; it cannot cut clear acrylic.
Ortur Laser Master 2 settings (power % / speed mm/min / passes)
These are starting points from Ortur's own published materials reference, not results from our own test cuts — Grafline has not run an Ortur Laser Master 2 through its shop. Ortur publishes its data per laser module (LU2-2, LU2-4 and LU2-10A), so each row below names the module it belongs to. Power % is Ortur's S-value divided by 10; LPC is Ortur's lines per mm times 10. Always confirm with a material test grid on a scrap of the same sheet.

Which numbers fit which machine: Ortur's engraving rows are LaserGRBL values for M4 (dynamic power) mode. The Pro S2 is rated to 15,000 mm/min; the original Laser Master 2 S2 only to 5,000 mm/min, so on an S2 treat any figure above 5,000 as out of reach. The cutting rows are Ortur's best-case LaserGRBL figures at full power (M3, S1000); they are faster than the conservative 10 W starting points on our Laser Master 3 page, so if a cut does not come through, slow down and add a pass rather than hold the speed.
Clear vs opaque acrylic: every Laser Master 2 module is a ~445 nm diode and cannot cut clear or transparent acrylic — the beam passes straight through, and Ortur says so in its own FAQ. Dark, opaque acrylic cuts slowly; we left the acrylic cutting rows out because Ortur's figures for it are hard to square with the rest of its table.
Always: run air assist on cuts, focus for the exact thickness, and don't hold 100% power to force a cut through — slow the speed or add a pass instead.

Bed size: what actually fits
Ortur lists the Laser Master 2 Pro S2 at 400 × 400 mm and the Laser Master 2 S2 at 390 × 410 mm. Both are open-frame gantry machines, so stock bigger than the bed has to be cut down before it goes on.
| Common stock | Size | On this machine |
|---|---|---|
| A4 sheet | 297 × 210 mm | Fits |
| 300 × 300 mm craft ply | 300 × 300 mm | Fits |
| 400 × 400 mm sheet | 400 × 400 mm | Fits the Pro S2 edge to edge; too wide for the LM2 S2 (390 × 410 mm) |
| 600 × 400 mm sheet | 600 × 400 mm | Does not fit — cut it down first |
| 600 × 300 mm sheet | 600 × 300 mm | Does not fit — cut it down first |
Fitting parts onto the sheet efficiently is where material cost is actually won or lost. Our nesting tool takes your file and this bed size and tells you parts per sheet; the sheet yield calculator does the same from plain dimensions.
What the Ortur Laser Master 2 cannot do
Knowing the hard limits saves more material than any settings tweak:
- No clear or transparent acrylic. The ~445 nm beam passes straight through it. Dark, opaque acrylic only, and slowly; clear needs a CO2 laser.
- The headline cutting figures are best-case. Ortur's product page rates the 10 W Pro S2 at 12 mm wood and 5 mm acrylic in one pass, and up to 20 mm pine and 30 mm acrylic with extra passes. The Pro S2 manual (a mirror on manuals.plus) rates the 5 W LU2-4-LF at 8 mm at most. Treat those as ceilings, not starting points.
- Weak modules cut very little. Ortur's materials table marks the 1.6 W LU2-2 as engrave-and-mark only for wood, apart from paper; it lists no wood cutting for it.
- No bare metal. Ortur's table marks copper, brass, pure aluminium and silver or gold plating as unsupported. Coated and anodised metal can be marked; the optional 1.3 W 1064 nm infrared module is Ortur's answer for bare metal and is outside this guide.
- Open frame means no enclosure. The beam and fumes are exposed unless you add an enclosure, so rated eye protection and extraction are not optional.
Troubleshooting: symptom, cause, fix
| Symptom | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Engraving looks faint even at 100% power | LightBurn's S-Value Max is left at 255, but Ortur's firmware range is S0–S1000 | Open Edit > Device Settings, confirm the controller is GRBL and set S-Value Max to 1000. |
| Cut doesn't go through, top looks fine | Focus set for the wrong thickness, or speed too high for the pass count | Refocus with the foldable focal gauge on the actual sheet, then drop speed about 25% before adding a pass. Check the back face. |
| Edges heavily charred or flaming | Air assist off, or many slow passes stacking heat | Turn air assist on and prefer fewer, faster passes. Never leave a diode job unattended. |
| Engraving looks the same at 8,000 and 15,000 mm/min on an LM2 S2 | The S2 is rated to 5,000 mm/min; the 15,000 figure belongs to the Pro S2 | Stay at or under 5,000 mm/min on the LM2 S2 and raise power or lines per cm instead of speed. |
| Clear acrylic does nothing at all | Physics, not settings | A diode cannot cut clear acrylic. Switch to dark opaque stock or a CO2 machine. |
| Lines wavy or doubled | Belt tension or a gantry that is out of square | Check belt tension and that the gantry runs square, then slow the engrave speed to confirm the cause is mechanical. |
If none of that helps, work through why won't my laser cut all the way through? or how to stop burn marks on wood.
Material cost per sheet
Settings tell you the time; material tells you the rest of the price, and Ortur doesn't publish that part — it depends on your supplier and moves with the market. Our where to buy laser materials guide lists suppliers worth comparing before you buy a full sheet. Once you know the price per sheet, the cutting time calculator turns your file and this machine's speeds into a full per-job cost.
FAQ
What are good Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro settings for cutting wood?
From Ortur's own published data, a 10 W LU2-10A module cuts 3 mm corrugated cardboard at 100% power and 700 mm/min in one pass. We left Ortur's pine and leather cut rows out: they run faster than our own Laser Master 3 and 5-10 W chart rows for a 10 W diode, so treat wood cutting as a multi-pass job and start from our chart. These are best-case figures at full power; if the cut does not come through, slow down and add a pass, and use air assist. Confirm on a scrap with a test grid first.
What are the best Ortur Laser Master 2 engraving settings for wood?
Ortur's published LaserGRBL values for engraving plywood are 100% power, 15,000 mm/min and 100 lines per cm on the 10 W LU2-10A, 100% / 10,000 mm/min / 150 LPC on the 5 W LU2-4, and 70% / 3,000 mm/min / 150 LPC on the 1.6 W LU2-2. The original Laser Master 2 S2 only reaches 5,000 mm/min, so lower the speed there.
What are the Ortur Laser Master 2 acrylic settings, and can it cut clear acrylic?
It cannot cut clear acrylic: it is a 445 nm diode and the beam passes through transparent stock, which Ortur's FAQ confirms. Black acrylic can be engraved, for example at 100% / 10,000 mm/min on the 5 W LU2-4 or 100% / 2,000 mm/min on the LU2-2. Dark acrylic cuts only slowly, in several passes.
What are the Ortur Laser Master 2 leather and slate settings?
For leather, Ortur publishes engraving at 100% / 10,000 mm/min / 150 LPC on the 5 W LU2-4 and 100% / 3,000 on the LU2-2. We left Ortur's leather cut row out because it runs faster than our Laser Master 3 page for the same 10 W diode. We left slate out: Ortur's stone row gives the same speed for its 5 W and 10 W modules, which does not hold up, so test it on a scrap instead.
Does the Ortur Laser Master 2 work with LightBurn, and what is the S-value?
Yes. Ortur lists LaserGRBL and LightBurn for the Laser Master 2 family. Ortur's firmware power range is S0 to S1000, so set S-Value Max to 1000 in LightBurn's Device Settings with a GRBL controller, otherwise engraving looks faint even at 100%.
What is the difference between the Laser Master 2 S2 and the Laser Master 2 Pro S2?
Per Ortur's support pages, the Pro S2 reaches 15,000 mm/min against 5,000 mm/min on the S2, has 7 safety functions against 5, and a 400 x 400 mm bed against 390 x 410 mm. Both take the LU2-2 and LU2-4 modules; the 10 W LU2-10A is listed for the Pro S2. The Laser Master 3 is a separate, newer machine with its own page here.
Can the Ortur Laser Master 2 cut or engrave metal?
It marks anodised or coated metal, for example coated metal at 25% / 10,000 mm/min on the 10 W LU2-10A per Ortur's data. It cannot cut metal, and Ortur marks copper, brass and pure aluminium as unsupported for the diode modules.
