xTool F1 Ultra settings — power & speed cheat sheet

Starting-point power, speed and pass settings for the xTool F1 Ultra, a desktop galvo machine that pairs a 20 W 1064 nm fiber laser with a 20 W 455 nm blue diode, so one enclosed machine marks bare metal and engraves or cuts organic materials. We have not run an F1 Ultra ourselves: most numbers below are xTool’s own material-library values, published outside XCS by Machines for Makers, and the rest are project settings posted on Atomm, xTool’s materials platform — the table says which is which. xTool has since added the F2 Ultra (60 W MOPA fiber, July 2025) above it, but the F1 Ultra is still sold new as of September 2026.
Quick answer: on the F1 Ultra’s fiber laser, xTool’s own material library fills its stainless coffee tumbler at 75% power / 100 mm/s / 1 pass and bare 304 stainless at 70% / 2200 mm/s / 1 pass; on the diode it cuts 3 mm black acrylic at 100% / 25 mm/s / 5 passes. xTool publishes no downloadable chart or PDF — the numbers live inside XCS — so the table below collects them in one place.
xTool F1 Ultra settings (laser / power % / speed mm/s / passes / lines per cm)
xTool keeps its presets inside the material library in XCS rather than in a downloadable chart. Rows marked xTool library are those values as Machines for Makers publishes them for this exact machine — their pages name xTool’s Material Library as the source — and rows marked Atomm come from project posts on Atomm, xTool’s materials platform. Every row is for the F1 Ultra’s own lasers, the 20 W diode and the 20 W fiber, never the base F1’s 10 W / 2 W figures or the F2 Ultra’s. Galvo speeds are in mm/s. Treat them as starting points and confirm on scrap with a material test grid before a real job.

| Stainless steel (0.3 mm pendant) | Engrave | Fiber 20 W | 100% / 80 mm/s / 2 passes / 300 lines per cm | Atomm |
Same material, different depth: the two bare-stainless-steel engrave rows above show why passes matters as much as power — 10 passes at 65% cuts a visibly deeper mark into a keyring than 2 passes at 100% on a thin 0.3 mm pendant, where the goal was a fine mark, not depth. Start from the row closest to your own material and finish, not the row with the highest power.
Leather, opaque acrylic and tumblers: we could not find a complete, correctly-labelled 20 W/20 W row for these — xTool's own materials-lab pages need a live browser session to show numbers, and several leather and acrylic figures circulating on review sites turned out to be copied from other xTool machines (one even mislabels the F1 Ultra's laser as the base F1's 2 W infrared). Start from the plywood row for organics or the stainless-steel rows for metal above, and confirm on scrap.

Settings tell you the power and speed; turning that into a price means multiplying job time by your hourly rate and adding material and setup. Run your engrave or cut time through the laser engraving time calculator, then use the calculator to turn that time into a full quote.
Blanks and goggles for the F1 Ultra
The F1 Ultra works piece by piece in a 220 × 220 mm field, and its goggles are not in the box. These match the rows above: metal for the fiber laser, and the eyewear for lid-open jobs.

Engraving area: what actually fits
The xTool F1 Ultra's working area is 220 × 220 mm, extendable to 220 × 500 mm in one direction with the optional Auto Streamline conveyor accessory; maximum object height under the lid is 145 mm. That is roughly double the base F1's 115 × 115 mm bed in each direction, so more stock fits without buying an accessory first.
| Common item | Size | On this machine |
|---|---|---|
| Business card | 85 × 54 mm | Fits |
| Dog tag | 50 × 28 mm | Fits |
| Phone case | ~150 × 75 mm | Fits |
| A6 sheet | 105 × 148 mm | Fits |
| A5 sheet | 148 × 210 mm | Fits, little margin either side |
| Tumbler (with rotary) | cylindrical | Fits with the RA2 Pro or RA3 rotary attachment (sold separately) |
| 300 × 300 mm board | 300 × 300 mm | Does not fit — the conveyor only extends length, not the 220 mm width |
For anything in the “does not fit” row, look at a gantry machine instead — the xTool S1 has a 498 × 319 mm bed built for full sheets.
What the xTool F1 Ultra cannot do
- No clear acrylic or glass cutting. The 455 nm diode passes straight through transparent material, the same limit as every diode laser on this site. xTool's own cutting-capability claim for this machine names basswood and black acrylic specifically, not clear; tinted or coated glass can be marked with the diode (see the table above), but clear glass needs a different process entirely.
- Metal cutting is very thin only. xTool's own published cutting figures for the fiber laser are 0.4 mm brass, 0.3 mm stainless steel and 0.2 mm aluminium, run at high speed with repeated passes. This is a marking and engraving laser first, not a sheet-metal cutter.
- No MOPA colour marking. The F1 Ultra's fiber laser is Q-switched with a fixed pulse around 120 ns; the variable-pulse MOPA effects — consistent multi-colour stainless steel, faster 3D relief — that the newer F2 Ultra offers are not available here at any setting.
- Safety goggles are not included. The enclosure keeps the machine at Class 1 conditions with the lid closed, but XCS allows processing with the lid open for oversized material — xTool classifies the F1 Ultra itself as Class 4 for that reason, and running lid-open needs goggles rated for both 455 nm and 1064 nm, bought separately.
Troubleshooting: symptom, cause, fix
| Symptom | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Engrave looks lighter or shallower than the same job ran before | Focal height has drifted, the red/blue alignment dots have separated, or the field lens has a smudge — xTool's own troubleshooting article lists all three | Re-home the Z-axis in XCS, realign the dots with the ball-head screw if they've separated, and wipe the field lens with the supplied lint-free cloth. |
| Laser fires but leaves no mark at all | The field lens protective film is still on, blocking output — you'll see only the red dot, never red and blue together | Remove the lens protector before processing; confirm removal by checking both dots appear at once. |
| Part of the design engraves, the rest is blank | Wrong laser selected for that material in XCS's Laser Type parameter, or the dots aren't focused on an uneven surface | Set Laser Type explicitly — diode for wood, leather, paper and glass; fiber for bare or coated metal — and re-focus on the actual work surface. |
| Wood cut catches fire at the masking tape | One owner review reports the F1 Ultra running hotter on wood cuts than other lasers they'd used, enough to ignite masking film at the kerf | Skip masking tape on wood cuts specifically, keep the machine's flame sensor enabled, and stay within sight of the job. |
| Machine won't fire at all | The USB security key that ships in the box isn't inserted — it's a physical dongle the laser needs to run, not a spare part | Insert the key that shipped with the machine before starting a job. |
Material cost per item
The F1 Ultra's 220 × 220 mm bed takes small-format blanks — pendants, dog tags, coasters, business-card-sized panels — rather than full sheets, and the conveyor accessory extends length only, not width. Buy stock already close to that footprint instead of cutting a bigger sheet down to fit; see where to buy laser materials for suppliers who stock these smaller formats.
FAQ
Is the xTool F1 Ultra still sold?
Yes. As of September 2026 it is listed new, refurbished and in an education bundle on xtool.com, alongside accessories like the Auto Streamline conveyor. xTool has since launched the F2 Ultra (60 W MOPA fiber, July 2025) and F2 Ultra UV (adds a UV laser, November 2025) as higher tiers, but independent reviews comparing both describe the F1 Ultra as still one of the stronger all-round choices for standard metal marking and mixed-material work, not a discontinued model.
What is the difference between the xTool F1 Ultra and the plain xTool F1?
Power, mainly. The base xTool F1 pairs a 10 W diode with a 2 W infrared laser; the F1 Ultra steps both up to 20 W and swaps the infrared for a true fiber laser, which is what lets it mark bare stainless steel, aluminium and brass at a usable speed rather than the faint coated-metal-only marks the smaller infrared laser produces.
What settings does the xTool F1 Ultra use for glass?
One sourced example marks tinted glass with the diode laser at 80% power, 400 mm/s and 1 pass. That is a starting point for tinted or coated glass, not clear glass — the 455 nm beam passes through clear glass much like it does clear acrylic, so results on clear stock will be faint or absent at any setting.
Can I engrave a stainless steel tumbler on the xTool F1 Ultra?
Yes, with the RA2 Pro or RA3 rotary attachment, both sold separately. xTool's own material library lists its seafoam stainless coffee tumbler on the fiber laser at 40% power / 80 mm/s / 1 pass for a score line and 75% / 100 mm/s / 1 pass for a fill. Other tumblers and coatings behave differently, so run a small test on the tumbler's base before the visible side.
Is there an official xTool F1 Ultra settings chart or PDF?
Not a static one. xTool keeps its presets inside the material library in XCS. Machines for Makers publishes those F1 Ultra values on the open web, which is where most rows on this page come from; the rest are project settings from Atomm, xTool's materials platform.
What comes in the box with the xTool F1 Ultra?
The machine itself, a touchscreen controller, slatted bed panel, L-shaped positioning piece, exhaust pipe, power adapter and cable, USB cable, two USB security keys, a lint-free cloth, a screwdriver, a small sample-material pack and the quick start guide. Safety goggles, the RA2 Pro/RA3 rotary, the conveyor and fume extraction are all sold separately.
